These are a few of Bev Hanson's favorite things. |

I never made a habit of saving my work. There was too much of it over the years––too many articles, ads, TV and radio commercials, video training tapes, press kits and media kits, brochures, proposals and presentations for clients as well as for my own shop, political campaigns, etc. and, luckily, too many Addies to give up the wall space. But magazines are easy to store; all you need is a box. In retrospect, the years invested in the publication represented here were the best ones. The business staff /sales staff was the finest and I had a wonderful team of very talented artists, photographers and writers. We worked hard but had a lot of fun doing it. At a time when patriotism seemed to be at an all time low, we decided to give it a lift. We tracked down this painting, The Spirit of '76 and got permission to use it on our cover. We felt very special when the caretakers sent down the transparency as they had just turned down Coca-Cola. To learn the history behind this, click on the cover. Our Flag and this country are favorite things. | |

This was a Bike Week cover because I decided to clean up Daytona Beach's biker image. Imagine our surprise when the office received 2 awards in the mail from the American Motorcycle Institute. This edition sold out the fastest of any we ever issued. The cover girl is a real biker I've known a long time who's very high on my list of favorites. |

This cover art and the art on the story inside, is by
Don "Duck" Edwing. If you have read MAD magazine in the last 30 years, you're familiar with his work. He lives in our town and loves illustration, so we had a long, happy association. We had a lot of fun with this issue. Humor–it's one of my favorite things. |

It's 2008 and Florida's on fire again. We got this timeless story because I called the County Information Officer, whom I know well, and asked him to insert one of our photographers with the fire fighters. He agreed to do a behind-the-scenes story and fire services provided this cover picture. Others were taken by HALIFAX. My other half is retired from FDNY. Heros are definitely favorite things. | ![]() |
In all my years of working with periodicals, this is the only cover story I did for which I provided the pictures. There were four bonafide, topnotch professional photographers working for HALIFAX and not one of them was willing to go to sea for this story about a weekend Memorial Day Race from Daytona Beach to Charleston. Oh well, sailing is really one of my favorite things. |
