In my huge copy of Webster’s, the second defination for spiritual is “. . .of, from or concerned with the intellect, or what is often thought of as the better or higher part of the mind.” There are other definitions relating to clergy and the church, but Spirit Matters is going to deal with spiritual as it relates to the above, and we’re going to look at the spiritual aspects that my dictionary neglected to mention. Since that weighty tome has been in print since 1904, you can be certain that some things were entered into the first edition that have ridden there unchanged for more than 100 years. I suspect that spiritual or spirituality falls into this category because spirituality is a great deal more than Webster’s definition would have us believe. leads me to think that this is one of the hundred year old definitions. Spirituality is far more involved in our everyday lives than many people realize. All things are spiritual. We are all connected to each other and to all things. In truth, spirituality is the circle of life that pervades this planet, its atmosphere, our solar system and, in fact, the universe. It is the harmony of this spirituality that makes our world behave. The tired adage that love makes the world go around, is not far off the track. Love toward each other and all living things is the foundation of spiritual thought. When used as a shield against bad vibrations, genuine love emits such good vibrations that it can conquer evil. Today, a great disruptive force is loose in our world. It emanates from mankind and it is producing |
the bad vibrations that are bringing about the threatened destruction of this beautiful, blue planet and all its myriad life forms. If it is going to be fixed before it’s too late, then we are going to have to be the fixers. After reading about the early origins of religion that Bill Lazarus is writing for Spirit Matters, I realized that the ancients had their own spirituality.
